MEDIA AWARENESS PROJECT

Would you like to get back at scammers? Read our plan!

If you lost money due to scam, or even if you just corresponded with a scammer and have an interesting story to tell, please help us to raise the awareness about the scams through the media.

The idea we have is simple: the more men are be aware of the warning signs of the scam, the fewer men will become victims of the scam. Eventually, the knowledge about these scams will become common, and the scammer industry will have to abandon their current tactics, and one day the Russian dating scam will become a thing of the past. We believe that this is the only way to beat the scammers' game for good. But it is taking too long for this knowledge to propagate among the population. Hundreds of men send their life savings to these Internet crooks every months, and the scammers are profiting big time.

We think that the best way to raise the awareness about these types of scams among general population quickly is to get the media's cooperation. A single 3-minute story aired on a major TV network during evening news may reach hundreds of thousands of potential victims. That is why we are starting our new Media Awareness Project.

Right now the main media seems to be completely uninterested in this subject. We need to change that, but how? We are hoping that this plan will work: the more people will ask for a story on a particular subject, the more likely it is that the media will pay attention to the problem.

So, everyone who is reading this, please contact your local and national media and ask them to do a story about Russian dating scammers.  It does not matter what country you are from: USA, Canada, Italy, India, Australia, Finland, China, Ireland, France, UK, Mexico, or what ever your country is. If you have been targeted by scammers, it means that other men from your country are being targeted, too. Write the media a short story about your experience and ask them to warn the public about the potential danger as soon as possible. Your story can potentially save hundreds of people alot of heartache.

Here is your plan of action:

 -       Use a search engine (google, yahoo, etc) to find out contact information for your local newspapers, radio talk stations, or TV stations. If you are not very computer literate and do not know how to search for this information, ask your friends or relatives to help you to track down that information. Save all the contact information you found in a separate file (also, take a look here for contact information for some of the regional and national media outlets).

Write them a short letter (about a half of a page), summarizing your experience with Russian dating scammers and providing them with links to more information on this subject. Ask them if they could publish or air some information about Russian dating scammers in order to protect the people in your community. Indicate in your letter whether or not you can be contacted for further information on your story.

-        Send your request to all the local media outlets you can find.

-        If you want to take it a step further, contact the national media as well. Contact your favorite TV stations, national talk shows, magazines, radio hosts, TV or news correspondents, or whoever else you can think of. The more media outlets you contact, the bigger the potential exposure.

-        Finally, let us know whom you contacted, when, and publish the contact method you used. By keeping track of what media outlets have been contacted, we can measure the effectiveness of our campaign and the interest level of different media groups. To report the people and media outlets you contacted or plan to contact, please visit http://russiandetective.forumup.org/viewtopic.php?t=1895&mforum=russiandetective

What if it works?

What if it works and a TV network or a newspaper asks you to participate in the story? Well, first of all, let us know about it! It would be very exciting news for us. Second of all, collect more information about the Russian dating scams, and how to detect them, so you could explain it to others. Third of all, if you feel any kind of discomfort about your identity being revealed in the story, ask the media representative how you could protect your identity while still providing them with valuable information. Usually they will be happy to cooperate.

Good luck, and thank you for your help!
